Agnews a Protestant-owned Car Showroom attacked and burned 14/8/69.
The above caption is from the BT but I think that car showroom was attacked and burned on the 13th (not the 14th) as Catholics made their way back from besieging Springfield Rd police station.

| I presume this is the car show room they burnt down in August 1969 by republicans in order to spread the police resources away from Londonderry during the so-called battle of the bogside?

| Yip thats the one RSAUB. They attacked that on their way down from the Springfield Rd Police Station where they had a protest,attacked the car showroom then continued on down a launched an attack on Hastings St Police Station. This was all prior to the trouble which started bigtime later in the week. As Malachy O Doherty said...''they started the trouble'' He was there and witnessed it happening.

Belfast. June 1970. An RUC man was sick after the Army had fired CS gas in Mayo Street during the Orange parade. (29/06/70)
Belfast. June 1970. An Orangeman with his head and face covered in blood after the parade, he had been attacked in Mayo Street, Belfast. (27/06/70)
Belfast. June 1970. A man is carried along Mayo Street, Belfast after being hit with a brick at the Springfield Road, Belfast during the Orange Parade. (27/06/70)
Just to add that man who was hit by a brick was Tommy Reid who later died. He and his wife had been watching the parade.

| Thought this was an interesting few photograps. The dates of the curfew and the women protecting the soldiers. That musn't be allowed and the pira saw to it that it wasn't.
Belfast. July 1970. Troops move barbed wire barricades for women to take home shopping during a two hour break in the Falls Road Curfew on Saturday evening. (04/07/70)
Belfast. August 1970. Girls form a chain across the road to prevent rioters throwing stones at the troops and police during the minor outburst of trouble at Unity Flats. (25/08/70)

| Yip its there for people to see if they open their eyes. It was bad enough for republicans having the 'British army on Irish streets'but having the local Catholic community defending them just wasn't going to be allowed. They had to change that and they did. Six months later they murdered British soldier Robert Curtis said to be the first soldier killed in the 'Troubles'
Republican propaganda has it that the Falls Rd curfew turned the Catholic people against the army,but as we can see from the above photos Catholic women were defending the soldiers six weeks after the curfew.
