A man who was given a tour of the Maze prison has said his experience is at odds with claims that a biased tour would be impossible under controversial plans for a peace centre there.
Jason Brown,from Straid near Ballyclare,says he complained to a unionist MLA in the aftermath of the tour on September 10,2011 - the date of a European Heritage Open Day.
''Although it was stated the tour would be unbiased,unfortunately it turned out to be far from neutral and was more akin to a republican recruitment day'' he said. Mr Brown said he complained at the end of the tour. He said that an official apoligised and said the guide had been warned before.
Recalling the tour, Mr Brown said: ''In the hospital wing the guide brought us in and said, ''This is the cell where Bobby Sands died' and said that some US visitors like to take a flake of paint from the walls as a souvenir.''
Mr Brown claimed the guide alleged the Government had used gas on republican prisoners,and that they later suffered cancer as a result.
In the H-block we were told about how prisoners were mistreated and how they shouldn't have been in there;however, I know that everyone in there had been convicted of serious offences. ''He was saying how disciplined the IRA was and how well planned the escape was, how they tricked the prison officers into trusting them and how great the escape was.
''In the chapel he told us about how messages were passed during masses which contained IRA orders. We were told all prison officers were held in the gate-house during the IRA break-out and nobody was stabbed,shot or hurt in any way. 'In fact, a prison officer died after being stabbed during the break-out and others were seriously injured.''
Referring to recent DUP assurances that such tours would not be allowed.Mr Brown said ''these tours have actually been already happening''.
The OFMDFM says it received no complaint in the aftermath of that day. A spokeswoman for OFMDFM who have control of the site,said that all buildings at the Maze were opened for European Heritage Open Days in 2011/12 and that public access was supervised by staff at all times

| If it does happen...a republican shrine. I'm fairly certain that in another 50 years (or maybe less if the present trend continues) a future British monarch (or maybe just English) will be laying a wreath at the shrine.
