Congratulations to the Lower Ormeau area. Ruth Patterson (DUP) unveils new artwork to more newly built houses in the Lower Ormeau Rd

'A new artwork, welcoming people to one of the largest social housing developments to have been built in Belfast for many years, has being unveiled recently

Built on the site of the former North of Ireland rugby and cricket ground in the Lower Ormeau Road,Lavinia currently provides 166 high quality homes for families and single people and work is underway on the construction of the final phase of the scheme which will provide a further twelve new homes.

The public art piece, made up of metal decorative railings incorporating the legend 'Failte go Lavinia' - or 'Welcome to Lavinia' in Irish - marks the entrance to the development.'

Well done Ruth, really great news for you and your fellow unionists another few thousand Roman Catholics housed in South Belfast, meanwhile the loyalist village area has been ripped apart in terms of numbers. Another electoral area that will never be won again by a Unionist, and very soon North Belfast will be lost as well.

Yes indeed. 538 houses in the Village and 114 being rebuilt. Though I'm not sure what the overall housing situation is there. But Sandy Row is a great example of unionist politicans inferior handling of these issues. 12,000 people reduced to 2,500. But never mind I think they have got an ice-rink and some retail outlets now,and there are plans for spaces sad

You couldn't make it up, yet basic common sense dictates more Protestant homes built the more unionist votes, I would love to know what world these unionist politicians are in,especially at this time when Nelson McCausland holds the portfolio to deal with the issue of social housing.

You would think that wouldn't you. The more of their own people 'stay put' its more votes for them. I  honestly can't understand their thinking re this issue. They go on about getting the unionist vote out, but in all honesty how could you vote for such an inept people.

I'm thinking thats why maybe this flag business will be used to get unionists out to vote. It wil get them off the hook and people will be voting not for their record as a representive but as a vote against republicanism, and it thus saves them from doing anything.

If they had being down their work and getting houses maintained in an area and new ones built and following the old cry of ''not an inch'' the flag business would never have arose.Having said that I  know Westminster played a part too by their gerrymandering but they still could have held their ground. Look at the smile on her face, silly woman. With politicians like this, who needs enemies and I say that knowing that Ruth Patterson is far from the worst that we have on our side.

On a few of the Facebook sites they are singing her praises because of her speech at the City Hall during the flag controversy. OK it was a rousing speech (echoes of Paisley?) and it got some of the Prods geed-up again. As far as I'm concerned I've learned not to take on board ALL that these people say. Her actions at Lavinia show a different side to her. The Protestants were driven out of Lavinia Street and other nearby streets until the lower Ormeau Rd became entirely Roman Catholic republican. She has chosen to forget or ignore that and instead prefers to 'cosy's-up to nationalist/republicans. But she's no mug. She is probably thinking her speech at City Hall will keep the Prods happy and get her votes and her appearance at Lavinia could also get her RC/nationalist votes. Yes, no mug is our Ruth.

Yip, that is the long term game plan of the DUP too try and get Roman Catholic votes but their strategy is fundamentally flawed and the number of votes they are going to pick up particularly from areas that will be nothing short of republican ghettos will be completely insignificant if any at all. Meanwhile our own Unionist/loyalist vote is being decimated by the destruction of once traditional loyalist areas not just in-terms of the number of houses but in the sort of people land lords and the housing executive in particular decide to move into our areas.

And those guys who have the power and influence at Stormont,Councils and Westminster are not bothering their heads. They have sold out already and making their dough while they can. This is certainly nothing that 'joe bloggs' could or can do about it. I think they believe that Ulster is finished, otherwise would they not have insisted that social houses be maintained and even increased in areas which were unionist and so have the votes there. No! they didn't give a damm and so your left to the one conclusion. money money money

Very true, the whole lot have sold out. The old saying money talks is all so true when it comes to all shades of our political figures and community workers (obviously not all).

Very sad times ahead for Ulster and our people, but we have to fight on, the traitors may grow in number and strength but we who hold dear to the old cause of Ulster have to keep fighting on.

The fight must go on ...yes indeed. I'm sure those inside the walls of Londonderry must have felt It, when some opted to leave the city and take the offer of the besiegers. Though some of that maybe was because the lack of food inside the walls. But with men like Murray who was able to foil the plans of the 'seller-outers'they triumphed in the end. Lets hope we have a few Adam Murrays knocking about today.
