Royal Black raises half a million for charities
Royal Black Institution has broken though the half a million pounds mark in raising money for charity.
The money was raised by members of the Institution and went to six charities,two in Africa and the rest locally based. The latest cheque,for £95,000 was presented to the Alzheimers Society at a special function in the Royal Black Headquarters in Brownlow House,Lurgan. The Institution has raised £66,000 for Chest,Heart and Stroke NI,£80,000 for Action MS,£90,000 for Open Door Ministry in Sudan,£77,000 for Diabetes UK, and £105,000 for Kiwoko Hospital in Uganda.
Millar Farr,Sovereign Grand Master of the Royal Black Institution,said the organisation was extremely pleased with the money raised by members.
''As a Christain based organisation it is very important to us that we are able to help people in this society and in other countries,'' he said. ''The response from our members has been tremendous.
Bernadine McCrory,director of Alzheimer's Society in NI, added: '' We in Alzheimer's Society would also like to add our heart-felt thanks to the members,their friends and families who helped to raise such a significant amount of money for our charity. Some of the monies will go towards a research project we are funding at Queen's University into care in residential homes for residents with advanced forms of dementia''

| On a purely personal level I would much prefer the money raised stayed within the U.K. or went towards helping fellow Loyalists throughout the New World. However it is still a fantastic achievement, well done to all concerned.
