£7 million investment to development cruise berth for Belfast

Ireland's first purpose-built cruise facility is to be built at Belfast Harbour. The £7million investment means the harbour will be able to handle all cruise ships as well as next generation ships which carry over 4,500 passengers and crew.

It will enable visitors to disembark within walking distance of the city's Titanic visitor attractions - Titanic Dock and Pumphouse, Titanic Belfast Visitor Centre and SS Nomadic - by next year.

£40 million for road

NL 2/7/2013

Magherafelt bypass among budget announcements

Work could start on the Magherafelt bypass in Mid Ulster by September next year, it was revealed.

Forty million pounds were set aside today by Stormont’s Executive for the project as part of the reallocation of departmental budgets.
The 3km road will extend from the Moneymore Road to the Castledawson roundabout.

Well these latest developments clearly show that there is money there to invest in infrastructure, so the chances of a bridge or tunnel are totally unrealistic if some kind of campaign could get off the ground.

It would do no harm if some of our politicans raised this at Stormont. They could play 'the altogether' card and seek the support of all at Stormont. When the Belfast and St Andrews agreements were made there was supposed to be an east west aspect as well as a north south one. I see nor hear very little about the east west side of it. Now's the chance to bring it up.

A new bridge across the Lagan now ! This is more of a want than a need. Another few million on some fad of our politicians. And they complain about there not being enough money for health and education etc. Its all just a load of nonsense and deceit. If the money was really needed for H and E they wouldn't be building a bridge which is not a necessity. They could have built two bridges to Scotland with the amount of money they waste on stuff like this. They are talking about 5 to 9 million for this bridge. Wonder what they'll call it? Its a cert it won't be named after Craig, Carson or Crawford.

This was seven years ago but at least they were showing a bit of vision. Where there's a will.....there's a way. But seems the politicians have no vision.

Saw  a headline in today's Sun newspaper Wed 22/4/15. ' Robinson Has Tunnel Vision '

It went on to say that Peter Robinson wants a tunnel between Ulster and Scotland.

Its only a couple of weeks to the election.Wonder if that's what's behind  it?

More money spent. I think the sum of £53 million was the figure given as already spent on this new Police Training College...and not a brick laid. They are making a loop link for trains to pass each other. Cost £46 million. And they still say a bridge to Scotland is too dear.

19:41 Tuesday 02 June 2015
NI Railways is just weeks away from starting some long-awaited upgrade work on the Coleraine to Londonderry train line – although it will cost more than twice what was initially thought.

The work involves signals on the tracks and a creating a “passing loop” on the line.

There is currently only a single track, and a loop would allow two trains going in opposite directions to pass one another safely.

Early estimates for the scheme had put the cost at around £20m.

It has now emerged the work will cost more than £46m, although NI Railways said more work will be done than was initially envisaged.

Police College....3 November 2014   A team in charge of plans to build a new training college for police and other services in
County Tyrone has said the project should not continue.

The £130m facility at Desertcreat was to have been shared by police, fire and prison services.

More than £12m has already been spent buying the site and on design fees.

And so it continues

Tuesday 30 June 2015

A new bridge across the River Lagan has been opened in Belfast city centre.
The £5 million Lagan Weir Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge connects Donegall Quay with Queen’s Quay.

One thing about infrastructure projects in Ulster, we're very good at wasting money on what is basically a load of crap in these days of cut backs in important public services.

On the news this week that the rail line from Coleraine to Londonderry has cost £46 million. With all this money being spent on this and other projects we could have had a bridge or tunnel built years ago.

I forget how much they spent on that proposed centre for the police, fire brigade etc in Cooklstown. It was well into the thousands and that was just for the advisiors, architects, surveyors and the rest. Now it has been scrapped.

I remember years ago Robin Dixon was in charge of a Balloon Festival  at Barnetts Park. It was a success but a lot of money went 'walkies' and nothing was done about it.

They seem to have money to waste instead of having something sensible which is going to benefit the country.

Stormont has splashed out £1.5m on a railway track that has not been used since 2003.

The Knockmore line is a 20-mile stretch between Lisburn and Antrim that passes Belfast International Airport.
Despite not being in service for 13 years and with no plans to reopen it, almost £1.5m has been spent on the line since 2012.
