As a reward in 1929 Vatican City’s independent sovereignty was recognised by Mussolinis now Fascist Italian government, In the said Lateran Treaty.
That dubious grant of sovereignty is still upheld to this day by the United Nations, this in spite of it clearly contravening their own statutes on eligibility for granting such a state to any given independent nation. This is evidenced in the fact that when the Vatican tried to exercise voting rights other states objected so it was stopped from doing so.
This does not prevent it having major input and an exclusive influence granted to no other religion on many issues, such as abortion, even in cases of rape or incest, IVF or condoms to stop aids, etc The more important point to note here is that this pseudo sovereignty grant, also constitutes the basis for the Popes claim of diplomatic immunity from prosecution reference the 25 years he spent running the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (The successor organisation to the Inquisition)
Furthermore the way the church operates its canon law as overseen by the CDF, that requires all sexual abuse complaints to be processed in total secrecy and witheld from law enforcement authorities and thus dealt with in house in a non punative and inneffectual manner, is also is justified precisely because of the Vaticans UN upheld statehood privileges. No other religious leader anywhere on the planet is beyond such prosecution or afforded such dubiously bestowed protections.
HE IS ABOVE ALL HUMAN LAW ENFORCEMENT. The ex pope is thereby the only religious leader on earth who may not be prosecuted for his almost 25 years covering up the churches abuse scandals all courtesy of Benito Mussolini and the UN.
These facts are a shockingly shaming indictment of both Amnesty International and the UNICEFs Convention on the Rights of the Child who refuse to tackle this issue. The church protects its priests the UN protects their boss
